Bellevue Firefighter Leads Multi-Fire Response Amid Dangerous Conditions in Nebraska
April 10, 2026
Initial Attack Branch Director Seth Merritt of Eastside Fire & Rescue has been managing four active wildfires in Nebraska — the Ashby, Minor, Morrill, and Cottonwood fires — according to the agency.
Merritt's teams endured three consecutive days of Red Flag conditions, with wind gusts reaching up to 50 mph. Overnight rainfall covered more than half of the state, providing some relief to firefighting efforts.
However, conditions in the western half of Nebraska are expected to return to dangerous burn levels, raising concerns about renewed fire activity in the region.
